Careers in education aren’t always based on teaching, there are hundreds of different jobs in education, including consulting or administrative roles. Within teaching, subject areas and age groups vary greatly by job and role.

School counselors help students develop the academic and social skills needed to succeed in school. Career counselors help people choose careers and follow a path to employment.
School counselors work in public and private schools. Career counselors work in colleges, career centers, and private practices. Both types of counselors generally work full time.
Most school counselors need a master’s degree in school counseling or a related field and have a state-issued credential. Some states require licensure for career counselors.

Teachers are detail oriented and need to pay close attention to all the little details – they are logical thinkers and take a step-by-step approach to analyze information and solve problems. Teachers are trustworthy and are known for their personal integrity and honesty, these attributes describe most people working in the education field.
